The crop tonnage for 2009 has been released by the California Walnut Board at 436,000 tons. The Objective California Walnut Crop Estimate was forecast for 415,000 tons, down 5% from 2008. It is now clear that the crop had considerable variation between varieties and areas of production within California.

To aid in understanding this year's market, we have compiled several charts and tables analyzing in-shell and shelled California walnut production, consumption, and sales. We make every effort to update these charts as new data becomes available each month.

Since the in-shell walnut market is influenced by the foreign currency exchange rates, the U.S. Dollars Per Euro chart is updated weekly. For the daily exchange rates of all major currencies, one can link to the Pacific Exchange Rate Service.
